What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX®, or botulinum toxin, is a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When injected in small, controlled amounts, BOTOX® temporarily inhibits the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contractions. By blocking acetylcholine, BOTOX® effectively relaxes the targeted muscles, reducing their ability to contract and thereby softening the appearance of wrinkles.

The effects of BOTOX® typically last between three to six months. Over this period, the treated muscles gradually regain their ability to contract as new nerve endings form and restore communication between the nerves and muscles.

All patients will discuss their goals during their treatment with our medical personnel. How to Prepare for BOTOX®

As one of the many neuromodulators we inject at Impressions Face + Body, BOTOX® isn't just about erasing wrinkles—it's about enhancing your natural beauty with subtle, strategic improvements. Dr. Steven Dayan, a pioneer in aesthetic medicine, champions the idea of the "subliminal difference." This approach focuses on making small, almost imperceptible changes that enhance your overall look. The goal is not to make it obvious that you've had work done but to ensure you look naturally refreshed and vibrant.

During Your BOTOX® Procedure

During your BOTOX® session, our provider will utilize a fine, short needle to administer minimal amounts of BOTOX® precisely into areas with dynamic wrinkles. The careful injection technique ensures that only small quantities are used per site, maintaining your face's natural look and movement while easing tension and diminishing wrinkles. Though patients may experience a temporary burning sensation, the procedure is typically painless, taking no more than fifteen minutes.

BOTOX® Aftercare & Recovery Timeline

BOTOX® injections typically involve little or no downtime, and patients can usually resume their normal activities immediately. The effects of BOTOX® develop within three to five days and will typically last from three to four months. Occasionally, a touch-up may be required and will take place two weeks after the first treatment to ensure the product has achieved its maximum benefit. The more often you undergo BOTOX® treatments, the less you will need it. Over time, wrinkles tend to dissipate, and BOTOX® is not required as often.

Am I a Good Candidate for BOTOX®?

The best candidate for BOTOX® is a physically healthy man or woman with realistic expectations and interested in temporarily reducing the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. BOTOX® injections are particularly beneficial for patients not interested in undergoing surgery.

For the best results, it's crucial to have realistic expectations. Dr. Dayan's philosophy emphasizes small, strategic changes that enhance natural beauty without overt signs of cosmetic intervention. This approach ensures that patients look better and feel more confident. Maintenance treatments help maintain a youthful look, and combining Botox with other treatments can enhance the overall effect.

Are there any BOTOX® Risks?
While BOTOX® is a safe and straightforward procedure suitable for all skin types, it's important to be aware of potential side effects, which are typically mild and temporary. These may include localized bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site. Rarely, some individuals may experience headaches or temporary drooping of the eyelids. It's crucial to have BOTOX® treatments performed by a qualified professional to minimize these risks. Unlike more invasive skin treatments, BOTOX® does not involve skin abrasion and, therefore, does not carry risks of scarring or discoloration.
How Painful is BOTOX®?
Most patients report minimal discomfort during BOTOX® treatments, often describing it as a brief burning sensation. The procedure is generally pain-free and quick, usually completed within fifteen minutes.
How long do BOTOX® results last?
The results of BOTOX® are not permanent. For most patients, the results last three to four months, though some patients may experience results lasting up to six months.
What is BOTOX® made of?
BOTOX® is a refined, non-animal protein formulated from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When skillfully administered to specific facial and neck muscles, it temporarily relaxes these muscles. This relaxation plays a key role in softening prominent lines caused by facial expressions and reducing any downward pull on facial features, leading to a more uplifted and smoother appearance.
How many units of BOTOX® do I need?
All patients will discuss what they would like to accomplish during their treatment with our medical personnel.
Will Wrinkles Come Back After BOTOX®?

Wrinkles will come back worse after stopping BOTOX®. Absolutely not. Dr. Dayan explains that while BOTOX®temporarily reduces muscle activity, it doesn't make wrinkles worse once it wears off. In fact, with regular treatments, many patients find that their wrinkles become less severe over time. The contrast effect might make wrinkles seem more noticeable once the smoothness fades, but this is due to the natural aging process, not BOTOX® itself.

Does BOTOX® cause permanent muscle damage?

This is false. BOTOX® temporarily relaxes muscles, and normal muscle function returns once the effects wear off. Dr. Dayan's approach ensures that BOTOX® treatments are done safely and effectively, preventing any long-term muscle damage.

Is BOTOX® only for older people?

Not true! BOTOX® can be used by adults of various ages to prevent wrinkles from forming and to maintain a youthful appearance. Dr. Dayan often treats younger patients who want to take a proactive approach to their skin health.
